Customer Service Representative

Thames & Kosmos is looking for a talented, smart, and motivated individual to join our growing science toy company. Our expert team (including a few office dogs!) publishes and distributes educational science kits and toys for kids. Our mission is to improve the quality of informal science education in the United States and provide tools to inspire creative thinking, advanced problem-solving, and other important life skills through full and interactive experiences.

Job Description

Full-time. Ninety (90)-day training period. This position supports the daily operations of the wholesale customer service department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Process wholesale orders and relevant customer-related forms, applications, and requests (high email volume)
  2. Provide information on our products and policies to customers and sales representatives
  3. Assist with key account set up and management
  4. Assist with product technical support
  5. Process replacement part orders
  6. Assist with invoicing and processing credit card payments
  7. Assist credit department with credit checks and collections
  8. Respond promptly and professionally to any and all incoming wholesale and retail customer inquiries via phone and email (high phone volume during peak times of year)

Secondary Responsibilities (as needed):

  1. Shipping and receiving (low volume, small shipments)
  2. Various projects, such as model building and product testing
  3. Assist with trade show preparation
  4. Office management support (supply orders, lunch orders, etc)
  5. Filing, mailings, and general administrative tasks
  6. Some travel may be required

We are looking for an individual with these qualities:

  1. Strong organizational and follow-up skills
  2. High attention to detail
  3. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; nuance and diplomacy are a must
  4. Sound critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  5. Self-starter who can work independently, but knows when to appropriately bring management team into the decision-making process
  6. Fast learner; can learn, retain, and apply information quickly and efficiently
  7. Ability to remain calm, positive, and effective in high-energy, high-expectation situations of urgency
  8. High-degree of computer literacy; must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  9. Experience with order-processing, EDI, and/or SAP Business One is a plus
  10. A true interest in Thames & Kosmos products and general mission: science education, toys and children, as well as an understanding that what benefits the company as whole will ultimately benefit the individual


  1. Salary commensurate with Full-time, based on 40-hour work week, regular business hours (Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm), bi-weekly payroll. Ninety (90)-day trial period (probationary employment period)
